International School Brunei recently received recognition from the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), United Kingdom’s leading gardening charity, for the outstanding work in the school’s Eco Wellness Garden.
The RHS has awarded ISB’s Eco Wellness Garden with a Level 3 School Gardening Award. In achieving this award level, the Eco Team at ISB has been leading initiatives at the school’s garden to grow various indigenous plants, to encourage wildlife into the garden, and to encourage students at ISB to be more in touch with nature.
Mark Evans, ISB Eco Coordinator, thanked the Eco Team for actively steering eco initiatives in school, “This is an achievement that we can be proud of, and this award is a testimony of ISB's commitment to educate and raise environmental awareness in everyday school life.
We love working on the wellness garden and seeing all the students and teacher using it to relax, play and learn about nature. I would encourage all schools to develop an area where you can bring the jungle to the students’ fingertips.”
The team is currently pursuing to further integrate the garden into the whole school curriculum and are collecting evidence for a Level 4 Award.
The RHS Campaign for School Gardening encourages and supports schools and groups to develop and actively use a garden. This initiative hopes to inspire youths to learn about gardening and horticulture.
Eco initiatives in ISB is led by the Eco Warriors in Primary and the Eco Committee in Secondary, who are guided by ISB Eco Coordinators, Mark Evans and Sarvagya Pradhan.
